Cumulated Selke Voting Over Past 5 Years

15 Sep

At LeafsHero we thought it be interesting to a see total of all Selke voting over the past 5 years. So we found the top 20 Selke Vote winners for each of the past 5 years, and summed the votes into one easy to read table.

We decided to add a second column though to account for “ageing”. For example Datsyuk winning a Selke 5 years ago doesn’t mean he’s currently as good defensively as Toews who won it this year.  So we didn’t value each point equally in the weight column.

A points in 2012/13 is worth 1x it’s value, in 2011/2012 is worth .95x it’s value and so forth until 2008/2009 where a point is worth .80x it’s value. If you don’t like this system just refer to the Total Points column.

Noticeable Trends

Bergeron has far and away the most 1st places votes over the past five years, but his number of 2nd/3rd drops off the fastest

Kesler has the second most 1st places votes, despite being 4th in total points and total weighted points.

Datsyuk, despite being top 2 in total points and weighted points, has only the 3rd most 1st place votes, by only 13 more votes than Toews. Datsyuk demolishes the competition in 2nd and 3rd place votes, and has the most 4th place votes as well.

Relationship between Backes and Kesler’s votes are interesting as well. Richards out does Backes is 1st place votes, but Backes has overall done much better than Kesler in Selke voting.

Enjoy.
